I know, it’s been a long day at the office and your mind is on 50 million other things at the moment and not on the work in front of you!

What’s for lunch? What’s for dinner? Did I shut the garage this morning? And so on and so forth! Your Facebook notifications are blowing up your mobile or maybe it’s just some God awful chain messages, or your significant other texting away. Whatever the case may be, let’s face it, distractions in the office are major productivity killers! This week, Dr. Kash takes a look at some of those “assassins” and how to manage them.

For starters, we’ll just go ahead and mention the obvious…SOCIAL MEDIA! Maybe you’ve been dealing with difficult patients all day and are half tempted to share your thoughts on the matter via Facebook. No bueno! While it may be more entertaining in the moment, it is definitely not contributing to sales or productivity for your business! According to Nielsen.com, the average American adult spends roughly 11 hours a day on or interacting with social media! That’s valuable time that can be used more wisely elsewhere, unless of course you’re using social media to benefit your business!

Second, SLEEP DEPRIVATION! Maybe grabbing that second or third cup of joe isn’t the solution to your lack of concentration in the office! Maybe it’s time to start hitting the hay a little earlier than usual so we can be our best self during the day! You’re most certainly not working at your best when you’re soooo tired. You just feel like a zombie, not to mention cranky, irritable, and just completely unfocused! So be sure to catch up on more zzz’s!

Third, MULTITASKING! I get it, you have a busy practice and you may feel you’re doing great at being an octopus juggling many different tasks at once, but are you really being productive?  According to the American Psychological Association, multitasking can actually kill productivity by 40%! So you might want to start delegating a little more to your team and focus on one task at a time!

While there are probably a ton of other distractions we face in a busy practice/office, these are just a few of the top ones we battle.
So breathe, focus, and don’t let these become a stumbling block to your success as a practice! Snap it back to reality!
